Joel Järventausta

Joel Järventausta (b. 1995) is a Finnish composer, currently studying music as an undergraduate at the University of York (UK). In the past two years he has studied composition under Dr. John Stringer and Prof. Roger Marsh, and is currently being supervised by Dr. Martin Suckling. Joel has a strong focus on contemporary music and composition and has written a variety of pieces from chamber works to solo works and an orchestral piece to a choral work. Recently Joel received the Chimera Ensemble Undergraduate Commission 2015 and has had his trio for bassoon, cello and guitar performed by Magnus Andersson, Pascal Gallois & Rohan De Saram. His solo violin piece will soon be recorded by Peter Sheppard Skærved. Other works have been performed by the Chimera Ensemble and Joel is actively working with the ensemble as a conductor and a pianist. Joel also takes interest in film and game music and has scored two short films during his time in University. He is hoping to continue exploring his compositional voice through postgraduate and further study.
