JULY RELEASES OUT NOW
DASH
Cuatrogato (Four Cats)
A warm, tropical breeze blows across the palm trees while you stroll Havana’s famous Malecón. There’s a good chance you hear the music from DASH – the latest release from Ansonica Records.
SWEET SPONTANEOUS
Michael Arnowitt
Concert pianist and composer Michael Arnowitt, assisted by ImproVisions Jazz, makes his Big Round Records debut with SWEET SPONTANEOUS. The project encapsulates the journey of folk into jazz with dignity, class, and just the right amount of swing.
SYMPHONY NO. 1
John Robertson
Deeply committed to a beauteous aesthetic, composer John Robertson’s third album SYMPHONY NO. 1 proves that new music can be rooted in tradition, yet offer a breath of creative fresh air – effortlessly and naturally.
HIPSTER ZOMBIES FROM MARS
Nicholas Vines & Ryan MacEvoy McCullough
HIPSTER ZOMBIES FROM MARS is a kaleidoscopic ride through some eighteen years of compositional endeavor and many thousands of hours of piano practice. From outer space to the darkest recesses of the human mind, the music alludes to worlds well beyond itself, sometimes seriously, sometimes satirically, sometimes both simultaneously.
TABLEAU TEMPEST & TANGO
Clipper Erickson
Professor Erickson’s prodigious performances are not only products of his superior musicianship, but also the in-depth studies he completes on every work performed. This is the best collection of such works to date. TABLEAU TEMPEST & TANGO is a must-have for the collections of piano dilettantes and savants alike. The LA Times notes, Erickson plays “with extraordinary dash and power and he never let[s] flamboyance obscure art.”
40 YEARS OF CONTEMPORARY MUSIC
Alicia Terzian & Grupo Encuentros
For forty years, Groupo Encuentros has performed the works of contemporary Argentinian and Latin American composers for an international audience to critical and popular acclaim. Under the direction of Alicia Terzian and in celebration of the group’s 40th anniversary – which coincides with their 2018 -2019 season – they perform works of some of the most significant Argentinian, South American and European composers of the past century in a program which premiered at the Encuentos International Festivas in Buenos Aires.
THE GORGEOUS NOTHINGS
Ingrid Stölzel
When Ingrid Stölzel first encountered Emily Dickinson’s envelope writings – from fragments of short poems to thoughts hastily expressed on paper – she was immediately drawn to those written sketches, which, she felt, offered a glimpse into the poet’s creative process. On THE GORGEOUS NOTHINGS, Stölzel takes a similar approach with the album’s eleven compositions, crafting an album that offers a glimpse into the composer’s own creativity.
BIRDS OF THE PSALMS
Cappella Clausura
German philosopher Immanuel Kant defined the Sublime as “beauty accompanied by awe” – a thought which perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Cappella Clausura’s second Navona release, BIRDS OF THE PSALMS. Masterfully and evocatively conducted by Amelia LeClair, the ensemble effortlessly interprets a magnificent choral repertoire spanning six centuries.
WAKING THE SPARROWS
Duo Sureño | Nancy King, & Robert Nathanson
On WAKING THE SPARROWS, classical and baroque guitarist Robert Nathanson and soprano Nancy King, performing as Duo Sureño, explore the beauty of the human voice blended with the guitar, and expressed through the music of today’s most compelling composers, who were inspired by the language of both ancient and modern poets.
STYLISTIC ALCHEMIES
Scott Barton
Scott Barton, contemporary composer and Assistant Professor of Music at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, engages in a rather unusual hobby: He designs and builds musical robots. Hardly unexpected, then, that Barton’s first Ravello Records release STYLISTIC ALCHEMIES is an electroacoustic box of surprises.
HYMNUS
Otmar Mácha & JITRO Czech Girls Choir
HYMNUS is the third release on Navona Records from the Jitro Czech Girls Choir conducted by Jiří Skopal. Combining the Choir’s virtuosic ability to capture the emotional essence of the songs on the album with the conductor’s artful and sensitive leadership, HYMNUS offers an exquisite aural glimpse into Czech culture.
