This New Music Friday, Navona and Ravello Records present four new albums that traverse varied expressive landscapes with celebrations of instruments’ capabilities and notable composers, and one single that speaks to our human desire to connect.
Dive in and discover new music from: Dominick DiOrio, Adrienne Elisha, Roberta Rust, and Paul Cohen.
FETTER & AIR
Dominick DiOrio
An emotional and collaborative tour de force, Dominick DiOrio’s FETTER & AIR presents the Mendelssohn Chorus of Philadelphia’s own words set to a haunting soundscape that explores each member’s innermost fears, dreams, and desires. The personal thoughts and interweaving arrangements create a raw expressiveness and intimacy, ultimately rendering a reminder of how our own stories echo within us.
ANTHELION
Adrienne Elisha
ANTHELION showcases the favorite works of the late composer Adrienne Elisha, its music at once abstract and deeply contextual, challenging yet ultimately transcendent. The solo and chamber works that comprise the album are technically demanding and rich in philosophical significance.
SOPRANO SUMMIT
Paul Cohen
Alongside his work as a performer, saxophonist Paul Cohen is known for his passionate scholarship, rediscovering long-forgotten saxophone works as well as arranging related music for the instrument. His latest contribution, SOPRANO SUMMIT, is both a celebration of the soprano saxophone as a concert instrument and a revelation of new, lost, revived, and beloved works.
