Between the spirited chaos of the holiday season and the frigid temperatures of December, the PARMA production team remained dialed into their productions around the world and made great music in the process. Read on for the full recap of December sessions and a sneak peek at what’s to come in 2024.
Concluding Sessions with Ovidiu Marinescu and Noreen Cassidy-Polera
The production team hit the ground running this month to wrap up sessions with Ovidiu Marinescu and Noreen Cassidy-Polera, who were recording the final works to be included on an upcoming album of cello and piano music from Navona Records. Selected from a recent Featured Recording Opportunity, the works of John Corollo, Joanna Estelle, L Peter Deutsch, and Paul Halley were recorded for the program, which will also be performed live by the duo at Carnegie Hall in the near future.
“The sessions were fantastic, and it was great to work with Noreen,” Marinescu said.
The cellist went on to share the joy he found in recording each of the works from November and December’s sessions, notably Estelle’s Valsa da Saudade, a piece written specifically for Marinescu.
“These are beautiful melodies composed with love and with skill,” Marinescu said. “Working directly with a composer and finding these special moments gives great significance to what we do.”
Reunited with the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra
PARMA’s team was pleased to round out 2023 productions with the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc, a long-time collaborator with several Navona Records releases in the books. In this production, the ensemble lended their sound to composer Peter Dickson Lopez’s “Adagio” from Songs for Thirteen Moons, a finalist in the 2023 American Prize Composers’ category.
Looking Forward to 2024
2023 has proven to be a fantastic year for music, and 2024 is already showing signs that it’ll follow in its predecessor’s footsteps. As New Year’s celebrations commence, the production team will return to the studio on January 2 to work with the celebrated Benda Quartet and composer John Partridge.
Shortly after, production will begin for our current Featured Recording Opportunity with the prominent Belfiato Quintet, to be followed by orchestral sessions with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, and many more.
Our Featured Recording Opportunity with the Belfiato Quintet is still open for submission. Share your music with us at the link below for consideration and a quote to record with the woodwind ensemble in 2024.
