We recently caught up with Matt Detrick, violinist of the Houston-based Apollo Chamber Players, to discuss the release of their latest album, Navona Records’ WITHIN EARTH. Apollo “performs with rhythmic flair and virtuosity” (The Strad) and has “found fruitful territory” (Houston Chronicle) through innovative, globally-inspired programming and multicultural new music commissions. Apollo is a passionate advocate of contemporary music. The ensemble’s 20×2020 project features a roster of the world’s leading composers. WITHIN EARTH is the latest in the 20×2020 project, and offers a look at sounds and music traditions from around the globe and through history. In this conversation, we got to discuss the makings of WITHIN EARTH, the background of the 20×2020 project, and how ensembles can stay productive during quarantine.
Thank you Matt for taking the time to speak with PARMA!
