We recently caught up with Canadian composer and longtime Navona Records artist Jan Jarvlepp. Known for his neo-tonal style and rejection of the avant-garde modernism that he was trained in at university, Jan is a forward-thinking artist. CONCERTO 2000 is Jan’s first full album release with PARMA, and is released on June 26, 2020.
In this interview, we spoke about how Jan developed his own style, what CONCERTO 2000 can offer listeners during a period of global uncertainty amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and more.
Thank you Jan for taking the time to speak with PARMA!

CONCERTO 2000
Jan Järvlepp’s CONCERTO 2000 presents a tonal concerto, scored for orchestra – one might think Wagner or Mahler when listening. Except that Wagner and Mahler might not quite have agreed with the directness of his tonal language: for Järvlepp’s work unabashedly appeals on a popular level.
